And suddenly you get pulled back to your Warframe with no warning.

You're out in operator mode doing something important: you're reviving a downed ally, you're using your Focus powers to Dash and Blast to charge things, heal things, stun things, hacking while stealthed. This leaves you with less than 100 health while your Umbra is under fire. Now for how it currently works: Same exact thing, but now when Umbra hits 25% health, instead of going down and becoming invulnerable he immediately kills your operator mode, pulling you back with a stack of Transference Static. It complimented the playstyle of being in operator mode. It was a problem, but lead to interesting play and strategic decisions.

When it was time to jump back to your Umbra, it was at low health so you had to decide when to jump back and how to make it safer. If he did he did, he would collapse into the same state as all the other non-channeling Warframes, and you would go about your business in operator mode. Umbra seemed to take reduced damage but could go down at 25% health. Most Warframes have 100% damage reduction while you're out of them, unless they're channeling an ability (World on Fire, Mend and Maim, etc.) in which case they still have 90% damage reduction. On first release, Umbra would act independently, and it could take damage. It was only live for a few hours before it was changed so I'll explain what it was and why it worked. Having followed the discussion since release I have to say I haven't seen anything that seems better than the way Excalibur Umbra was first released. Why? Because he adds danger and inconvenience to being in Operator mode. Unfortunately, Excalibur Umbra is currently, by far, hands down the worst frame to use if you're trying to spend time outside of your frame.

Let him get some kills, throw down some free Radial Blinds, cause havoc while you're doing your thing. If you jump out, he acts independently! That sounds GREAT.

(#s "I think we can all agree Excalibur Umbra is intended to compliment Tenno who like to spend time outside of their Warframe.
